Vehicle History Reports

AutoCheck Story

Over the last 12 years I have been watching how vehicle history reports have evolved into a more complete picture of a vehicles life. Years ago, when there was only Carfax , Experian was collecting millions and millions of rows of data for data mining. Experian decided to get into the vehicle history report business back in 2000 by starting e-vehiclehistory.com, which is now a dead URL. Experian did a very smart thing by partnering up with a large auction reporting company called "AutoCheck" which is now www.autocheck.com.

Experian and AutoCheck saw the need to have a competitor to Carfax.com in the marketplace. Being a start up you could not just decide to spend the millions of dollars to compete with the Goliath in Carfax so they came up with a "powered by" product. This was the architect of Lou Gaz and Dave Nemtuda. This concept was brought to companies like YahooAutos, eBaymotors, AutoTrader, Nadaguides and Cars.com. Why not empower your partners to have a version of their own vehicle history report where consumers already knew the brand. This strategy helped propel AutoCehck into the consumers eyes and the dealer world.

Today, AutoCheck is the most widely used vehicle history service used in over 90% of the auctions, major dealership groups and large automotive information portals like www.dmv.org.

AutoCheck went from a little known start up in the auto industry to empowering partners with a “powered by” product, building great relationships within the auto industry and leadership that is still going strong today with the likes of Scott Waldron, president of Experian AutoMotive.

Researching Used Vehicles prior to 1981

Most of the baby boomers who are now in there sixties love the romance of the vehicles of the 1960's and early 1970's. The younger generation in their twenties really don't care about cars prior to 1990. The 1980's were not great for the auto industry anyway, but when you want to get that 1978 Camaro or 1966 Pontiac GTO what do you do when researching the vehicles history?

Well here is the problem anything before 1981 only had a 9 or 11 digit vin. Most states did not keep any records on junk titles, scrap titles, accident information or if a vehicle was a lemon. So what do you do when purchasing a vehicle before 1981.

1. If you are purchasing local and you're a serious buyer and the owner of the vehicle will have no problem in providing a mechanical report or allow you to bring to your mechanic. Since there is no history the only thing you can do is to make sure the vehicle is in good working condition.

2. If you're purchasing online through eBay Motors or Auto Trader Classics they have many tools to make sure the vehicle you're buying is protected. Ebay has a buyer protection plan for you, which is great in case the vehicle is not as described when it is delivered.

There is nothing to be worried about when buying an older vehicle, it's just important to do your homework and research so you can enjoy the sunny days in the vehicle you really wanted to drive.

Auto Safety Recalls..

What is the best way to handle

All of us get these safety recall notices that let's us know the potential danger we may face if our vehicle fails to break, steer or something goes wrong with the electrical system. It is very important to understand why we got the notice and what needs to be repaired. Carfax found out that 2.7 million vehicles that we for sale online still had open recall notices. Basically the owners of those vehicles did not bother to go to the dealership and get the potential hazard fixed. The worst states for open recalls currently are California, Texas and Florida with over 100,000 open recalls in each state. It sure sounds like a bunch of ignorance out in the marketplace for private owners not caring to check for recalls on the vehicles they're selling.
What can you do?
The first thing when buying a used car is to go to Carfax.com or AutoCheck.com and run a vehicle history report on the vehicle you're considering to purchase. If you see an open recall make sure the dealer or private owner fixes the issue before you purchase. Why should you have to deal with problems the minute you buy the vehicle, right? I have seen a alot of lemon letters, junk letters and scrap letters around vehicles from people who want help and advise.
The best advise I can give you...BE PREPARED and WISE when purchasing a vehicle; uncover everything and then feel good about your purchase!

How do I know I'm not getting ripped off when I take my car in for service or repairs?

Short answer: You don't.

But according to Yahoo! Auto Tips, "The "rip-off" is really a lack of communication or a misunderstanding between the parties involved."

The Auto Industry is on an upward climb

The auto industry is on an upward climb, impressively. The 12.9 percent increase in auto sales in October, compared to September is an excellent increase. The increase had been affected by the flooding that occurred but still this is a good sign for the Auto transport industry. It is significant that the banking institutions helped in getting more vehicles sold by offering easy to own finance packages too difficult to resist especially if you need an auto now.
The auto moving industry particular has a trickle down affect when the auto industry goes up or down. People are always moving from state to state or being transferred from a job and relocation occurs. Auto-Move.com works with local dealers across United States by partnering up with AutoNation to help consumers move specific vehicles.
Auto transport is important step of your re-location strategy. The key thing is to be prepared and find a strong company that you can entrust confidence to follow through and perform from start to finish.
The three keys to auto transport:
1. On time delivery of your vehicle
2. Checkpoint tracking – Where is my vehicle?
3. Premium Insurance to protect your vehicle – The Company should protect you.

Delivery is very important part of the strategy in your move. You want to make sure your company will have a checklist of items they will deliver to you before they pick up the vehicle and if they don’t you have a full refund of your deposit. Get references from the company and make sure they are not local but actually 3 to 5 reference you can talk to explain how your auto was moved and that auto transport company did their job.

Checkpoint tracking – Just because your vehicles gone should not mean you don’t know where it is, how about a GPS locator on the vehicle to let you know its travels. This is important because if you’re trailing your delivery you can make arrangements with the auto transport companies. This is also important if any situations come up that could delay your vehicles arrival.

Premium Insurance – is probably the single most important part of your auto move strategy. A reliable company on is bonded but will provide you insurance to protect you vehicle during transport. This is part of your cost but not something you should have to buy to protect your vehicle. If a company requests you to pay for this hang the phone up and do not use them to transport your auto. Your auto being transport is your second most important asset you own don’t just let anyone transport your auto.
